The Infant Development Program (IDP) of the Center for Children and Families at the University of Texas at Dallas serves as a resource for the identification and prevention of developmental disorders for children ages 0-3. IDP offers comprehensive developmental screenings at four locations in the Dallas area in both English and Spanish: the Bachman Lake branch of the Dallas Public Libraries, the Richardson and Dallas campuses of UT Dallas' Callier Center for Communication Disorders, and the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.
Screenings of the child’s development are conducted with the parent(s) present. At the end of the screening session, parents receive immediate verbal feedback about their child’s skill levels and initial recommendations that can be applied at home. An individualized written report is mailed to the family including recommendations for promoting development. When the screening indicates a need for additional help, referrals for follow-up evaluation and treatment are made, in consultation with the family. In this way, IDP seeks to link families with services now that help to optimize their child’s development.
